Michelle graduated with a Bachelor in Arts (Sociology). Due to family members that are diagnosed with autism, she believes strongly in early intervention. Michelle worked in an Autism Centre with young adults with autism that worked in sheltered workspaces. That was Michelle’s first exposure to working with persons with autism, and in creating and using learning visuals and tools to aid in learning and their work. She was very amazed that with structure and learning aids, the behaviours of the persons she was working with could be regulated.
Later, she move on her career as a Behaviour Therapist working with young children using Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA). Michelle found the work to be very meaningful, and she realised that it is possible for children with autism to learn through positive reinforcement. She believes very strongly in her work with children with autism, and wants to embody this quote by Carl Jung, “Know all the theories, master all the techniques, but as you touch a human soul be just another human soul.” Michelle hopes to help more children in the course of her work and to be a therapist that their caregivers can trust.
