Joel graduated with a Honours in Psychology.
Previously, Joel worked with youths at risk. He was involved in mentoring and running outreach programs with youths from the Community Rehabilitation Centre and Singapore Boys Hostel. He had to be very patient with them as they may not listen very well. However, Joel believes that as he was very friendly with them, they warmed up to him over time and the working relationship became much easier. This experience taught him the value of being patient and the importance of having a positive mindset to build good rapport with the people.
He also worked with people with ADHD by analysing various assessment tools to devise a functional program evaluation toolkit and formulated a working guide for clinicians to evaluate the effectiveness of their emotional regulation group program.
On top of that, Joel also had a job experience of conducting direct and indirect informal assessments to assess children’s behaviour and social / emotional concerns.
From there, he implemented intervention strategies such as antecedent behaviour consequences model to mitigate disruptive behaviours in the classroom. He will then collect data throughout intervention phase to monitor the children’s progress and to make adjustments to intervention accordingly.
