STEPassess, a department within AutismSTEP, is a private psychological practice in Singapore that offers formal psychological assessment for Autism, Intellectual Ability, and Academic Functioning.
Even the best medicines are only as good as the accuracy and quality of the diagnosis.
For this reason, we provide detailed psychological assessments for your child. This enables you, and us, to know exactly how your child functions, his/her strengths and weaknesses.
From there, we are then able to design a therapeutic programme to help him/her better cope with or transit towards mainstream education, maximise the gains from special education, and ultimately improve quality of life.
At STEPassess, our team of qualified and trained psychologists also provide a comprehensive range of psychological and psychometric assessments for your child.
If you suspect that their your child is displaying:
Poor verbal communication skills
Poor daily functioning skills
Poor learning and/or academic performance
Difficulty in staying attentive
Difficulties regulating emotions and behaviours
Poor eye contact
Inability to respond to name and instructions
Inappropriate Disruptive, self-harming or aggressive behaviours;
Lack or inappropriate social interaction
Development of obsessions or compulsions
We strongly encourage you to investigate the root cause. We are here to support you in your child’s therapeutic journey.
Psychometric assessment is a standardized and scientific method used to measure an individual’s functioning and ability relative to population norms. It serves to uncover clinically significant areas of concern, determine the nature and severity, make appropriate diagnosis, and guide the treatment plan.
The AutismSTEP Difference
Our Clinical Psychologists hold a postgraduate Master in Clinical Psychology degree. They are trained and certified to conduct assessments to diagnose a range of special needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Intellectual Disability (ID), Attention-Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD), Learning Disorders (e.g. Dyslexia), and other neurodevelopmental disorders. They are also a Full Member of the Singapore Psychological Society (SPS), and fully registered with the Singapore Register of Psychologists (SRP).
For most clinics and hospitals, the entire process (including waiting time) can take between 1 month to 6 months. At AutismSTEP, we prioritise your time and urgency. The whole process, from the date of assessment to submission of the report, can be done within 2 weeks.
True Capability of Your Child
Our assessments are administered by clinical psychologists that have numerous years of experience working with children with Autism. Therefore they are better able to engage your child and not let any behavioural or attention issues interfere with the assessment. The assessment results are therefore reflective of the true ability of your child and the difficulties that he/she is facing.
We Specialise in Autism
Many Psychologists work with multiple disabilities. We specialise specifically in Autism – we only do what we are good at.
Especially for children with special needs, an unfamiliar environment (such as a clinic) is often stressful and anxiety-provoking, and assessment performance of your child may be compromised. With us, your needs come first. Our assessments are done at your child’s home environment to ensure your child is familiar, comfortable, and therefore better able to engage in the assessment.
We abide by the hallmarks of gold-standard clinical psychological assessment, which include the following:
Initial consultation session;
Assessment sessions which involves clinical interviews, psychometric testing and obtaining of corroborative information;
Feedback session, where the report will be provided and explained in detail.
Hassle Free MOE and SPED School Application
All reports are recognized for the purposes of MOE, SEAB and SPED School application. Mandarin (Chinese) Translation
For families whose primary language is Mandarin, deciphering and making sense of the assessment report may pose a challenge. Though the assessments are still conducted in English, our initial consultation session and feedback session to explain the assessment report can be done in Mandarin so that you can better understand your child’s condition ordiagnosis, functioning level and needs.
